Finally Altom releases an album. After a number of groovy tracks on TIP World and 3D Vision (apparently) there is a full 76 minutes of chunky linear trance to lose yourself in.
The album eases you in gently with a couple of light choons that are ideal for morning sets. Some Place Else starts with a what sounds like male choirists and the sounds of their voices are soon joined by a light chugging kick and nice bassline which carries you through a spacious airey number right into track two. 200% ups the tempo a little bit but still keeps spaciousness whilst introducing a welcome squelch factor and big bassline to keep the kiddies interested. Then once through the airyness its into the more focussed linear trance arena, IMO the next two or three tracks would sit very nicely in a full-on set. They are nowhere near as all over the place as some of the choons that are currently out (e.g. Alien Project) but the deep yet driving sounds will sit nicely between the tracks and give the crowd a rest before bringing the hammer down with another full power choon (teehee!). On first listen Hologram grabbed me its, nice and PHAT and I’m a sucker for choons with an ‘umpha-umpha’ bassline and Sci-Fi samples but on subsequent listens I reckon that Magentic Force is the Fave. This choons will keep the crowd simmering away very nicely indeed. It introduces some aurally-pleasing squelches some which swoop across the sky and some that work their way into yer head and satisfy the psychedellically minded of you.
Not From Concentrate and Intoxicated lift out into the space again before Upgrader takes you on its windy, trippy journey down back into the realm of big bass and satisfying acid stabs. Argos capitalises on the momentum generated by Up Grader and theres acid twist a plenty and wobbly bass which rises to a peak about two thirds in then flattens out into the final track. Now for me this could be one of the tracks of the album. A beautiful chilled affair with a bit of tabla and lovely lush sweeping synth sounds that insinuate themselves into your skull. IMO sometimes the token chilled choon tacked on the end of an album doesn’t work but in this case it complements the previous choons very well. It deepens the atmospheres created earlier and works nicely. A must in a chill out set!! All in all a good album I reckon, think S-Range/Alien Project/Tristan (maybe)…..oh and driving, I great driving album. Oh and last point; Listen to this as one piece of work not just individual choons.
